Michael Apollo
Founder & Conference Chair, A Mindful Society Conference

Michael Apollo is an avid mindfulness educator, entrepreneur, and tech innovator. He is Program Lead in the Applied Mindfulness Meditation (AMM) program at the School of Continuing Studies University of Toronto. The AMM program provides over 800-course hours to learners annually, has 47 instructors and over 60 certificate programs and courses.

Prior to assuming his position at the University of Toronto, Michael supported InteraXon Inc. in the innovation and development of a mobile application called Calm that uses neurotechnology and mindfulness-based programs to help introduce users to contemplative practice. Calm and the brain-sensing headband Muse (choosemuse.com) has won multiple awards including the coveted “Technology for a Better World” award at the Consumer Electronics Show and numerous design awards outplacing tech giants Google, Apple and more. Michael continues to be a senior advisor for InteraXon Inc. and holds numerous patents in the VR, augmented reality and biometric sensing sectors. Michael also supported the innovation of Meditation Studio App and is an advisory board member of Gaiam, the organization that created the mobile application. Nominated by Time magazine as one of the top 50 apps of 2016, Meditation Studio App provides over 200 meditations, 27 teachers, and 3 courses. Michael’s in-app mindfulness-based introductory course Meditation Essentials has been taken by 450,000+ users worldwide.

In addition to his work in designing and developing mindfulness-based programs, as President of Mindful Gateway Consulting, a workplace mindfulness training firm, Michael has brought research-based mindfulness programs to organizations such as UHN, CIBC, Great-West Life Centre for Mental Health, Siemens and HollisWealth. Michael is passionate about integrating the practices and concepts around awareness and compassion into society at large and is the founder of Canada’s largest mindfulness conference A Mindful Society held at the University of Toronto.
