Anna Marie Batelaan, MSW, RSW
Social Worker & Mindfulness Facilitator

Anna Marie Batelaan is a Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working with children, youth and their families in a variety of contexts including wards of children’s aid society and young offenders; recent immigrants; better beginnings, better futures; and disability and health care. The past 17 years she has been working as an Inpatient, Daypatient and Outpatient Social Worker with the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. She has been the Co-Chair of the Social Work Practice Council at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital for the past 5 years. She has presented at local, provincial, national and international conferences on Brain Injury. In 2016 she was nominated for Hospital Social Worker of the Year Award from the Ontario Brain Injury Association.

Anna Marie completed her 4 year double major undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Toronto in 1989. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Social Work with Distinction at York University in 1995 followed by her Master of Social Work at the University of Toronto in 1996. In 2009 Anna Marie was introduced to Mindfulness Meditation and has been practicing ever since. Anna Marie has found the practice has benefited her immensely both personally and professionally. By 2014 Anna Marie had completed the Foundations in Applied Mindfulness Meditation and the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Specialist Certificates through the Applied Mindfulness Meditation program at the U of T Factor-Inwentash School of Social Work. In 2015, Anna Marie went on to complete the Core Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Facilitation certificate through the U of T Factor-Inwentash School of Social Work and the Centre for Mindfulness Studies.

Anna Marie has facilitated a number of Mindfulness Meditation groups at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Weekly Inpatient Parent Group began Jan 2014, Weekly Staff Mindfulness Group began June 2014, Monthly Parent Talk Group began 2015, and co-creator and co-facilitator of 7 week Mindfulness Group for Health Care Professionals Sept 2016). Anna Marie has also facilitated Mindfulness workshops for parents through the Easter Seals Society, and for Staff of Bloorview School Authority.
